Talk
about a wintry weather mix! Galleria
Dallas will put on daily tree-lighting shows
with indoor "real snow." The shopping
mall hired MagicSnow
Systems of Los Angeles
to create the special effect, but mall officials declined to disclose how the
snow will be produced. The white stuff will drift down from above the Galleria's
Ice Skating Center and will melt after it falls on ice skaters and around the
rink's Christmas tree.
BY THE NUMBERS: If the snow were to accumulate through the holidays, instead of melting, it would weigh 4,000 pounds. From Nov. 28 through Jan. 4, it will fall on the rink 66 times for 15 minutes each time. That's 990 minutes or 16.5 hours of snow.
MAGIC AND MISSILE TOES: Angie Freed, senior marketing manager for Galleria Dallas, says, "It's magical. We're amplifying the holiday experience for Texas shoppers."
Missile Toes, the ice-skating Santa, will perform his aerial stunts during the Grand Tree-Lighting ceremonies Nov. 28 and 29 at noon. Pyrotechnic sparks will shoot from Missile Toes' boots as he skates around the 85-foot-tall tree.
• "Illumination Celebration" music and light show with snow – daily through the holiday season. Mondays through Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 1, 3 and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 1 and 3 p.m.
• Grand tree-lightings on Nov. 28 and 29 at noon, 3 and 7 p.m. Missile Toes will perform at the noon shows.
