MagicSnow Creates the World’s First ‘Snowing Billboard’ on the Sunset Strip

A Blend of Experiential OOH and Hollywood Snow FX Turned a Billboard into a Winter Wonderland.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA. – MagicSnow helped bring Disney holiday magic to the Sunset Strip with a Snowing Billboard – a blend of Hollywood snow effects, experiential marketing, and Out-of-Home advertising. The eye-catching campaign transformed a traditional billboard on the Sunset Strip into a real-life winter wonderland, to celebrate the launch of A Disney Holiday Short: The Boy & The Octopus, directed by Taika Waititi.

Overcoming Challenges: A Technical Marvel

Turning Disney’s Snowing Billboard from idea into reality was no small feat. MagicSnow partnered with Disney, Clear Channel Outdoor, and The City of West Hollywood to navigate complex city regulations, secure permits, and gain approval from local businesses and residents.

MagicSnow created a unique, water-based snow formula that vanishes mid-air, delivering a breathtaking snowfall experience with zero mess or cleanup.

To address stringent billboard structural and weight restrictions, MagicSnow designers engineered a groundbreaking solution: a ground-supported, independent truss structure built directly into the billboard. This innovation ensured the structure remained invisible to the audience without adding additional weight load to the billboard.

After extensive offsite testing and final approval from Disney, the installation team had just four hours to install and test the Snowing Billboard, racing against the clock to ensure everything was show-ready before morning rush-hour traffic.

The Result: A Holiday Campaign for the Ages

Running for three weeks during the peak holiday season, Snowing Billboard wasn’t just a campaign—it was a must-see event. By transforming the iconic Sunset Strip into a real-life winter wonderland, the activation brought the spectacular, snow-filled scenes of A Disney Holiday Short: The Boy & The Octopus to life in an unforgettable way.

The activation even caught the attention of Disney CEO Bob Iger, who shared the snowing billboard on social media.

“The Snowing Billboard is the type of creative challenge that MagicSnow does best,” said Adam Williams, President of MagicSnow. “With the incredible support of Disney, we were able to bring their vision to life in a way that exceeded all expectations and created one of the most impactful OOH campaigns in recent memory.”
